Despite the continuity of constructive ideas of Alan Kay, Grid Compass was hardly a full-fledged laptop for the simple reason that it does not allow the user to work offline. The first truly mobile computer, designed by Adam Osborne specifically for travel, was introduced in 1981 and was called the Osborne 1 (Adam called the creation of own name).
Adam Osborne, who had become known to the engineer through their active participation in the development of the first microprocessor the Intel 4004, founded the Osborne Computer Corporation, and began to actively promote their wines to the mass computer market, the benefit to the success of everything possible was done.
Osborne 1 comes preloaded with the operating system Osborne System One and a set of software: word processor WordStar, a spreadsheet editor SuperCalc, database management system dBase II and the two versions of the programming language BASIC. A portable computer has an autonomous power supply system, weighed eleven pounds and offers potential buyers for 1800 dollars.
